The Story

Back in 1998 a trio formed a Punk/Rap/Metal group in a bedroom which would develop into the powerful 7 piece Ska/Hip-Hop/Reggae collective seen today touring the UK and Europe…

In the summer of 2001 the said trio collaborated by living together in a converted recording studio jamming and writing together with their creative friends. This was to be the initial stage for a bigger evolution for the band. With the addition of a DJ, second MC and guitarist the music would shift away from Punk and Metal, but stay close to its Hip Hop roots. Before long this new 6 piece had a fixed set of songs and began performing live around the bars and clubs of their home town of Bristol.

Growing a loyal local following their live shows were renowned for their high-energy performances, cheeky lyrical wit and music showcasing a vast mix of genres, from Funk to Drum n Bass, Rock into Rap. From these humble beginnings, First Degree Burns were formed! After a productive couple of years 2003 saw the departure of Wilfy P (MC Defector). His absence stunted any further growth of the band until the arrival of vocalist Jalon (Da Herbalis). With a more melodic vocal range the second stage of evolution had begun with a further mix-up of genres, eliminating Funk and Drum n Bass whilst embracing Reggae and Ska. Live shows were put on hold as the band fine tuned their blend of what would become their signature and self proclaimed style – ‘Skip-Hop’.

With a fresh new energy and drive, First Degree Burns started booking shows outside the walls of Bristol. With the ongoing expansion in full effect, the following 2 years saw the search of the next piece of the FDB puzzle… 2005 was a truly magical year for FDB, the year the puzzle was complete thanks to a horn section. They jumped back into the studio and started working on their most ambitious project yet, a 5 track EP titled ‘Unconceivable’.

Unconceivable was released independently with FDB enjoying some initial industry recognition and success. Gaining radio airplay, featuring on national TV adverts (T-Mobile) and globally distributed video releases (O’Neill snow and surf videos). From here on in, FDB have gone from strength to strength – recording a double album (First and Foremost) and two more EPs (This is Skip-Hop & Reason), touring the UK and Europe at countless clubs and festivals, generating a reputation as one of the finest and liveliest independent acts in the UK.

Always looking for the next step and how to better themselves, the next chapter of FDB is in full swing. With the current line up throwing new ideas and influences at each other, the already solidified sound of the band is only developing further! Their ever evolving sound is building on its rich heritage and taking every stage by storm. 100% driven by their love of music and staple knock-out live-performances, watch this space and expect to be seeing a lot more of FDB in the years to come…
